X-RAY XMAS Ocean Edition, The Set

When I started to think about a Christmas range for the shop, I wanted to produce something locally made designed crafted in Melbourne. Like all ODD's objects, they would need to last and be the heirlooms of the future, passed down through generations. What will our children and their children inherit? This led me to thinking about the natural world and each of the elements – water, air, earth and fire. I've always been fascinated by the power of X-Rays and I started experimenting with designs taking form in this way.

The Ocean Edition is a collection of creatures found locally in Australian waters, and some swim all over the world. The full set contains all seven creatures, designed and produced in Melbourne by me, ODD's owner, Kevin Burnett.

Material: Brass of Stainless Steel, with wax-coated cords

Process: Laser cut by machine, de-nested by hand (separating the finished parts from the main sheet) and de-burred to a satin finish by hand.

When you buy the set, $7 is donated to the Australian Marine Conservation Society.
